A neatly printed catalogue for an exhibition called "Percorsi Mentali", curated by one Massimo Indellicati for BN Chora and Ambiente H. But I only flipped through as it contained a lot of text and some images, but unfortunately, despite the French title, it's all in Italian. The music on the CD was created for the project and consists of three long pieces by Maurizio Bianchi, Andrea Marutti and Lost Shelter. Bianchi opens up with "Electrorules", a piece for industrialized electronics, which seems to be on the move constantly. It's not as heavy as the piece by Andrea Marutti, who does something I hear him rarely do. It takes some time, but then when things finally explode, they explode for real. A heavy electric storm. Lost Shelter explores a somewhat more musical edge in his piece, with cosmic synthesizers and a deep rhythm, slowly exploring the infinite sky. Quite a nice piece indeed, after all the abstract and noisy doodling of the previous two. A fairly decent compilation I'd say, not the greatest I ever heard, but throughout well enjoyable. The three pieces transport the listener through a variety of textured musics.

By taking the content out of its pinkish slipcase we find a 60-page booklet with a CD hidden somewhere in the middle. Simply inside a plastic sleeve without too much stuff printed on it; nothing fancy, nothing really mind-blowing... But appearances are deceptive! The booklet is written entirely in Italian, and my own Italian ends at pizza, grappa and sambuca. And no, I didn't find those words in there. Obviously, because it's a catalogue for the "Percorsi Mentali" exhibition, organized and curated by Massimo Indellicati for BN Chora and the Ambiente H association. For this project music has been created/composed, and part of that music has been released on the accompanying CD. It is three long tracks with a playtime of just over an hour which are intriguing enough to make me doubt the choice of staying in Holland this winter. Maybe a trip to Italy would have been a better idea. Maurizio Bianchi opens the disc with "Electrorules" – nice experimentalism as we have come to know from him. Loops and weird sounds of unknown origin. The result is what will turn out to be the most threatening part of the release. Andrea Marutti experiments on his "Sq2148_Sq1549[scoria]_Sn1652″. Many different layers result in a sometimes very intrusive track. I have liked this style of music ever since I watched a live performance by Man is the Bastard and no, it's not noise like they do, but the clarity of sounds and the ‘visibility' of the layers is impressive by both. The last track, entitled "Radiation", is by Lost Shelter. I couldn't find anything about him/her/them, so I can only say what the music did to me. It's a heavy drone with certain ambient aspects, nicely layered with sounds of clocks (I think) which are treated with delays and filters. Well built and a very nice atmospheric piece. In conclusion: I guess it's a must to visit this exhibition if you're in Italy, and as long as you're there just get this catalogue as a souvenir from your trip. For other people who like the long, droney ambient pieces with transcending effects and analog experimentations, as well as loopy madness, it's for sale through the Afe records website.

In 'BN Chora.Jugement' – scrive Massimo Indellicati – l'elemento principale era l'essere umano posto davanti a Gesù Cristo che urlava la sua sofferenza, fino ad avere seri dubbi sulla sua reale esistenza. In 'Percorsi Mentali' è protagonista la malattia insieme al luogo della possibile cura, al tempio dello sviluppo e al consumatore dei medicinali. 'Le Triomphe Dans L'Endroit De La Duperie' è il catalogo di un'esibizione che ha avuto grande risonanza in tutto il paese e che Ambiente H ha voluto presentarci in una splendida edizione corredata di libretto di sessanta pagine. Quasi settanta minuti di esperimenti sulla materia ambient con Maurizio Bianchi ('Electrorules') e Andrea Marutti ('Sq2148_Sq1549[scoria]_Sn1652') capaci di leggere con intatta freschezza l'umore dei visitatori e la profondità dell'argomento trattato. Del primo è ancora forte il fervore espressivo di 'Zehn Tage (Touka)' pubblicato insieme ai tedeschi Telepherique mentre del secondo abbiamo recentemente apprezzato il contributo in Hall Of Mirrors e Molnija Aura.

Terzo episodio della saga Eicoolsat e cioè una serie di installazioni che hanno per tema la fantascienza e il cui deus ex machina è quel Massimo Indellicati che firma i booklet di tutte e tre i CD stampati. In un caso si tratta di uno split tripartito condiviso da Andrea Marutti, Maurizio Bianchi e Davide Tozzoli. Apre le danze (si fa per dire) MB, il "grande vecchio" del noise industriale (ma non solo) italico dimostra come alcuni dei suoi lavori più interessanti non siano solo quelli storici (o o doveri dire storicizzati?) ma anche roba più o meno recente.
In questo caso Bianchi presenta un suo abituale lavoro di loop, molto più prodotto di molte altre cose sullo stesso taglio ma che potrebbe piacere a chi ha apprezzato lo split (splendido) con Atrax Morgue, anzi rispetto a quest'ultimo MB riesce persino ad essere più morbido. Segue un altro monumento nostrano del circuito dark ambient e chi non lo ricorda per i lavori come Amon, Nimh o con il suo nome di battesimo, ricorderà Andrea Marutti per essere il patron di un'etichetta parecchio conosciuta come la Afe (Aidan Baker, Andrew Duke, Mathieu Ruhlmann, etc). Marutti come Bianchi si lancia in una traccia a suo modo molto riconoscibile per il suo stile quando non lavora su cose smaccatamente dark ambientali, tagli sulle frequenze acute, elettronica fredda post ambientale che gioca su tempi lunghi finendo in dissoluzione con un piglio quasi ipnotico. Ultimo ma sempre in linea con le lunghezze ed il trip ipnotico anche Davide Tozzoli che sembra usare quelli che credo siano dei suoni di chitarra, molto lo-fi tenuti sul fondo ma comunque efficaci, resta che vanno aprendosi in una traccia ambientale morbida, malinconica ed efficace. ...Marutti è presente anche nel CD, con corposo booklet, che raccoglie parte delle musiche composte per l'installazione "Percorsi mentali". Il pezzo a lui accreditato, "Sq2148_Sq1549[scoria]_Sn1652" assume nel suo frastagliato continuum contorni di conclamata genia Industrial destinando per una volta Maurizio Bianchi ad abdicare, assumendo il maestro nell'occasionale contesto un ruolo di maggior moderazione con la pregevole "Electrorules" che si dipana, in altrettanti ventiquattro minuti, in un processo minimalista di percepita dinamicità. A chiudere la terna "Radiation" di Lost Shelter, severa tranche di cosmica oscurità.
